Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union Launches Free Night-Ride Service for Intoxicated Individuals
Hyderabad, 31.12.2025 — In a pioneering move to improve road safety and curb drunk driving, the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union has announced a free ride-home initiative for individuals under the influence of alcohol during late-night hours. The service will be available from 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM across three key commissionerates in the state.
Under this decision, anyone who is unable to drive safely due to intoxication can avail complimentary rides to their homes. The initiative aims to reduce the number of road accidents caused by drunken driving, especially during peak weekend hours.
To access the service, beneficiaries can call 8977009804 anytime between 11 PM and 1 AM. Trained gig and platform workers will be dispatched to provide safe and reliable transportation.
Leaders Speak on the Initiative
TGIPWU President Sheikh Salauddin, speaking on the occasion, emphasized that the free ride program is aimed at preventing accidents and protecting lives during festive celebrations. He stated that driving under the influence poses serious danger to both drivers and pedestrians, and the union has launched the #HumAapkeSaathHai campaign to address this risk. He shared that for the last eight years, TGIPWU has been providing free New Year rides through autos and four-wheelers, and this year the initiative is being expanded with BijliRide’s support. Around 500 vehicles, including cabs, autos, and EV bikes, will be deployed across the three commissionerates. Anyone intoxicated and unable to travel safely can call 8977009804 for assistance.
A representative from BijliRide added that mobility is not just transportation but a responsibility to save lives, stating that “If our fleet can prevent even one accident or ensure one person reaches home safely, our partnership achieves its true purpose.”
Why This Matters
Drunk driving remains one of the leading causes of road accidents nationwide. Late-night travel, especially over weekends, sees a spike in such incidents. By offering a free alternative to driving, this initiative has the potential to save lives and significantly reduce traffic mishaps in Telangana.
