Hyderabad: In a major political development in Telangana, Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, has officially announced that she will be launching a new political party in May. While the formal name, flag, and election symbol have not yet been publicly declared, trusted sources indicate that the party will be called Telangana Praja Jagruthi Party (TPJ).
According to highly placed sources within her camp, Kavitha has already initiated the process of party registration and symbol allocation. It is learned that an application was submitted to the State Election Commission last month seeking official recognition. The party leadership is reportedly expecting the ‘Kagada’ (Torch) symbol, which is being seen as a representation of awakening, struggle, and people’s empowerment.
Yellow and Red Flag in the Works
Sources also reveal that Kavitha is personally overseeing the design of the party flag. The likely colour combination is yellow and red, symbolising prosperity, courage, and revolutionary spirit. Party insiders suggest that the final design will reflect Telangana’s cultural identity along with a strong pro-people narrative.
Though no official visual has been unveiled, the leadership is keen on presenting a flag that distinguishes TJP from existing political formations in the state.
Official Launch on April 15?
While Kavitha mentioned that the party launch would take place in May, internal discussions reportedly point to April 15 as the tentative date for the formal unveiling. A massive public meeting is said to be under preparation, with leaders and supporters mobilising across districts.
If confirmed, the launch is expected to significantly alter the political dynamics in Telangana, especially ahead of upcoming local and state-level electoral processes.
Background: A Break from BRS
Kavitha’s political move comes after her dramatic exit from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the party founded by her father K. Chandrashekar Rao. Once considered a prominent face of BRS and an influential leader within the party structure, her fallout with the leadership has sparked intense speculation over the past few months.
Political observers say the development marks an unprecedented chapter in Telangana politics — a direct political contest emerging from within one of the state’s most powerful political families.
What This Means for Telangana Politics
The formation of the Telangana Praja Jagruthi Party (TPJ) could potentially attract disgruntled leaders, youth activists, and sections of voters seeking an alternative platform. The anticipated ‘Kagada’ symbol, if allotted, may become a strong visual identity for the new party’s campaign narrative centered on awakening and people’s rights.
As the official announcement approaches, all eyes remain on Kavitha’s next move — particularly the confirmation of the party name, symbol, and launch date.
More details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
