Hubli, October 18, 2025:
In a spirited celebration of World Standards Day 2025, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Hubli Branch Office organized a grand “Quality Walkathon” this morning, bringing together over 1,000 participants from diverse sectors, including industry, academia, government departments, NGOs, and consumer organizations. The event aimed to spread awareness about the importance of standards and quality in everyday life.
The “Quality Walkathon,” held under the theme “SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals,” transformed the streets of Hubli into a sea of enthusiasm and commitment toward building a quality-conscious nation. Participants carried placards and banners promoting the message of “Quality in Every Step,” symbolizing BIS’s vision of taking standards to every home and every citizen.
Ahead of the event, Shri Prahlad Joshi, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, extended his best wishes to the organizers and participants. In his message, the Minister lauded the efforts of the BIS Hubli Branch Office for fostering a culture of quality and urged citizens to actively participate in such initiatives that strengthen consumer safety and industrial excellence.
Following the successful completion of the event, Dr Meenakshi Ganesan, Deputy Director General, South Regional Office, BIS, met Shri Prahlad Joshi at his office in Hubli, accompanied by P. N. Murali, Scientist-E/Director and Head, BIS Hubli Branch Office; Tushar Sharma, Scientist-D & Joint Director; and Ashutosh Agrawal, Scientist-B; Assistant Director, BIS Hubli Branch Office. During the meeting, the team briefed the Minister about the overwhelming response received for the “Quality Walkathon” and shared insights on BIS’s ongoing activities in the southern region.
Smt. Meenakshi Ganesan highlighted the active participation of local industries, educational institutions, and consumer groups in promoting the Quality Connect campaign, an initiative under BIS to strengthen partnerships across sectors. The Union Minister appreciated the collective efforts of BIS and assured continued support for initiatives that empower consumers and encourage adherence to Indian Standards.
The event concluded with participants taking a pledge to uphold quality in their respective domains — reaffirming BIS’s mission to build a stronger, safer, and more sustainable India through standards.
