Karimnagar: In an effort to support traditional artisans and strengthen livelihood opportunities for hand-skilled workers, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), a central government organization, is conducting skill development programs for caste-based occupational groups. As part of this initiative, a training programme for traditional potters (Kummari community) was held on Wednesday at Arepalli in Karimnagar district, under the guidance of trainers Uppulooti Vinay and Venuvanka Santosh.
The 10-day training session, organized under the Kumbhar Sasaktikaran Yojana, focuses on equipping young potters and artisans with modern techniques in pottery, including innovative methods in crafting clay pots, earthen vessels, utility items, and artistic clay products. Participants will also be trained in improved production practices and technical skills to enhance both quality and quantity. Following the completion of training, various machinery and equipment will be provided free of cost to eligible participants.

About Kumbhar Sasaktikaran Yojana and Financial Benefits
The Kumbhar Sasaktikaran Yojana is a KVIC initiative aimed at empowering traditional potters by providing skill training, modern tools, electric potter’s wheels, clay grinders, and other machinery to reduce manual effort and increase productivity. By introducing technology upgrades and market-oriented skills, the scheme helps artisans improve product standards, expand their customer base, and increase their earnings.

Skill development under this program enhances the potters’ ability to produce more in less time, meet urban and festival-season market demand, and diversify into decorative and commercial clay products. This not only sustains traditional craft but also provides financial self-reliance and market linkage support, making pottery a viable source of income for families depending on the craft.
